The Prints Exhibition
The Prints Exhibition was fueled by the lack of active action taken by the community to reduce their waste, but behind the absence of their initiative were inaccessible options and facilities to manage their waste properly.
In order to find a solution, information was gathered from interviews with Zero Waste advocates and the community, and self-experimentation by the designer, it was found that there were many eco-friendly options in the market yet none were being utilized on a large scale.
Instead of saturating the pool of great products, the Prints Exhibition was created to let visitors physically see their print on this earth, not with numbers and percentages but with simple interactive elements like stamps and Augmented Reality. 90% of this exhibition is proudly eco-friendly, with handmade paper, cardboard pedestals, lino and wooden stamps, which are easily recycled and dismantled.
The Prints Exhibition emphasizes on the designer’s message that it doesn’t require a radical lifestyle transformation, but it’s the little changes in your daily habits that will go a long way - “sedikit-sedikit, lama-lama menjadi bukit”.
Kopitiam & Cafe Culture
Over the past few years, Malaysia has been booming with cafes that are aesthetic and niche concepts, but behind the modern cafe-hop culture lies a gem of the country’s own local Kopitiam. In Malaysia, there are different meanings within the contexts of coffee, like the gathering of friends and the art of coffee itself. The designer’s goal was to discover the differences and similarities in Malaysian culture with the old and new in order to preserve the country’s local identity.
This publication explores the visual aesthetics of Kopitiams and cafes today alongside an in depth look through of the food and beverage menu, demonstrating the differences in its respective culinary craftsmanship. The Kopitiam & Cafe Culture publication draws two ends of the spectrum together to share the beauty of Malaysia’s cultural roots and its evolution in a modern age.
