Experience Centre for
Child Trafficking - AN UNATTAINABLE HORIZON
Today, we can still find gender inequality in any corner of the world. One of the most common and serious problems in terms of gender equality is child trafficking.
Typically, child trafficking refers to the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of children for the purpose of exploitation. Unfortunately, the effects of child trafficking will lead to the denial of children's basic rights and it will harm the physical, psychological and social growth of children.
In my opinion, this problem is still happening due to the mentality of society towards women and children. They are often treated unequally due to the severe prejudices that society does not understand and does not value.
This is also due to exploitation, poverty, lack of awareness and the child's inability to fight back. For the victims, they may feel helpless and hopeless because they have no autonomy in their lives. Therefore, proposing an experiential centre that can help raise awareness is not only advocacy for the protection of human rights, but also a necessary way to achieve peace in our world.
The goal of this project is to communicate the experiences of the victims and their feelings to the public, to make people aware of the problems and to make changes to them to protect themselves and raise awareness of prevention. Ultimately, girls are empowered to protect themselves and their rights.
The design concept is ‘an unattainable horizon’. As once victims are trafficked, they are in debt for life and many will feel there is no end in sight.
In this concept, the ‘horizon’ represents the time before because the ‘horizon’ has always been there like a once happy past.
Many of them might desire to go back to the happy days before but they never will because the time before is already too far away for them.
On the other hand, the horizon also represents a ray of hope within them, because they are always longing for help from people, but no one is reaching out for it.
They, therefore, give themselves a hope of being rescued, although they know it is out of reach, but it is difficult to give up.
Communication Hub -
BREAK THE CIRCLE
Recently the whole world has been affected by the pandemic COVID-19 and has launched many topics about it. One of the issues is that creativity and innovative thinking were miss-up when working from home and there is a lack of communication between people during the pandemic and even in the usual.
In addition, due to the fact that petrol stations in Malaysia are increasingly closing down and being abandoned, repurposing the abandoned petrol station has become a trend.
Therefore, an idea about repurposing an abandoned petrol station to a communication hub was popping out. It aims to increase creativity and innovative thinking through connection with others.
Besides, this project was proposed for the Center of Connection, a psychology centre that provides multidisciplinary clinical practice and aims to help people to find their joy and meaning in their life through connections with others.
The design concept is ‘break the circle’. In this concept, 'CIRCLE' represents the friend zone/comfort zone or the situation of being trapped.
As a conclusion, people are expected to come out from a difficult situation or their comfort zone through communication with strangers. As they come out from the circle they were expected to discover the happiness in their life and increase innovative thinking.
